The island has the advantage of having two distinct geographical areas:
- One located in the North, in an axis starting from the Capital Fort-de-France to the Commune of the extreme North of the commune Grand-Rivière. It is the most mountainous part of the island with, as its highest points, Mount Pelée volcano 1,397m, followed by Piton du Carbet 1,196m. This area is crossed by the main rivers, lush rainforest with fauna and flora.
- The other area located south of this axis, and starts from the City of Lamentin, headquarters of the Aimé-Césaire International Airport, to the Commune of Sainte-Anne. It is a flat and less hilly area than the North, drier with the pond of Salines, a remarkable site bordered of the coastal forest with a bird observatory, and the mangrove made for the visitors.
Sainte-Anne is the city with the largest number of beaches, and is bordering the municipality of Marin, which has the largest marina on the island with its shops. From there, you can go on short breaks in the neighboring English-speaking islands of St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the famous Grenadine Islands.
You can walk to enjoy the beaches of Salines and that of Pointe Marin ..., all lined with coconut trees and white sand, with wooded landscapes and parking spaces, shops and restaurants are also nearby .
